Created specifically for freeriders, Burton's Serow offers a wider range of motion than any other full-featured boot for expert snowboarders. It's not as rigid as the Driver X or Ion boots, but it does offer more support potential than The White Collection Series. This season Burton redesigned their heat-moldable Imprint 3 liner without taking away any of the customizable refinements like the J-Bar adjustable heel hold system and the Outlast® Adaptive Comfort™ technology. Outlast® technology is a thermal phase-changing material that helps absorb excess heat while you're hiking up backcountry ridges and releases the thermal warmth as your feet chill during long rides down the fall line. The result is a more consistent insulation performance that you can count on throughout the day. The Power Panels inside the liner contain memory foam materials that snap back to their original positions far better than the traditional boot materials that typically "pack in" after a season of hard use. You'll also find B3 gel cushioning inside the Vibram® outsole for added impact-absorption on big air landings. The Serow has a Streamlined Speed Zone lacing system that allows you to tighten and loosen the support along key areas to match the terrain, so you're not uncomfortably hogtied in a vise like other high-end snowboard boots. If you're an intermediate or advanced rider who spends most of your winter in the park and pipe, the skate-inspired Burton Freestyle offers excellent features with a little less stiffness than the Burton Moto and Hail. This season Burton refined the entire design by adding the proven and popular 2:1 Power Lacing System, a lighter outsole and a new heat-moldable Imprint 2 liner. The Imprint 2 liner has Power Panel 1.0 technology and a quick-fit lacing harness that you can tweak to refine the fit and support. Power Panels contain memory foam materials that snap back to their original positions far better than the traditional boot materials that typically "pack in" after a season of hard use. Down below everything is a new lighter outsole with rubber ice spikes for improved grip. This design replaces last years' three-part outsole that had a nice low profile, but didn't give big-air fans a lot of cushion if they were coming down on hardpack. Despite the extra EVA for padding, the Freestyle feels exceptionally light. This is a great flexible boot outfitted with all the pipe, park and ollie features you need and none of the expensive extras.

The Emerald is an excellent multi-purpose boot with just enough stiffness to suit intermediates and advanced riders without taking anything away from aggressive new riders who want the right gear the first time. This season Burton enhanced the fit with a new Imprint 2 Liner with True Fit construction and Power Panel 1.0 technology, Hot Pockets and Outlast® Adaptive Comfort. The Power Panels inside the new liner contain memory foam materials that snap back to their original positions far better than the traditional boot materials that typically "pack in" after a season of hard use. The Emerald's Speed Zone Lacing System allows you to cinch up the snowboard boot over certain areas where you need added support or a little more flex. This is done by pulling a Lower Zone lace handle until the boot is tight over the ankle area, then adjusting the Upper Zone lace handle until the cuff region feels right. When you're ready to go, tuck the handles into their neatly concealed pockets outside the liner and get into your bindings. Burton's Speed Zone lacing guides also micro adjust so you have even lace tension where you need it, potentially reducing foot fatigue and eliminating those painful pressure points found on other women's snowboard boots. It's a great size adjustment feature for women who prefer to make the most of every trip to the mountain.

The mellow and progressive flex of the articulated cuff gives Burton's Women's Sapphire owners the distinct ability to keep their heels locked down on their advanced freestyle and all-mountain snowboards. The Sapphire offers a two-part flexing design between the upper and lower sections, so female riders enjoy a smooth flex that's also surprisingly responsive, making this boot an excellent pairing for freestyle and all-mountain snowboards. Granted, this progressive flex characteristic might not be the best thing for new riders, but it's a great snowboard boot for experienced riders who need performance with plenty of comfort features.
