Gaiters
A warm, lightweight overboot for extreme cold-weather mountaineering, Brooks Rangers have been on the summits of the most punishing peaks in the world. A waterproof layer of coated 8 oz. packcloth lines the boot section, while 1000D Cordura® provides crampon-resistant protection along the inside of the leg and around the lower gaiter. AlpenGrip® provides traction and durability in the sole, toe cap, and lower foot areas. A Schoeller® Dynamic Extreme® leg section functions as breathable protection over insulated pants. Closed-cell foam insulation around the boot area traps heat and can be used with strap-on crampons or step-in models. Dense Poron foam in the insole prevents cold from passing through the sole of your boot. An instep strap inside the gaiter holds your heel down for a snug fit, and allows the Brooks Ranger to function as a bootie in camp.

The original do-it-all gaiter of mountaineers, backcountry skiers, and off-trail adventurers, Crocodile® are designed to handle anything. Durable Taslan GORE-TEX® leg sections resist Devil's Club and keep snow out. The 1000D Cordura® boot section, lined with coated 8 oz. packcloth, stands up to ski edges, crampon snags, and general boot wear. The water-resistant coating on the packcloth is sewn to face the Cordura® layer, protecting the coating from boot abrasion. The hook and loop front closure is sewn with sturdy double-needle stitching. A shear tab prevents the front closure from separating at the bottom. The urethane coated nylon instep strap can be replaced on the trail without tools.

Down to the tiniest detail Crocodile Gaiters have everything that made Outdoor Research Crocodiles the premier gaiters for hiking and climbing for so many years. They're fitted gaiters, but the size is adjustable via the 2"-wide Velcro® front opening. The uppers are Taslan GORE-TEX®, and the tough Cordura® lower part is lined with the packcloth that most gaiters are made of! The strap-and-buckle top closure is very comfortable and is bomber secure when postholing. A double-riveted lace hook and a burly nylon-supported instep strap keep the gaiters firmly attached. We're totally confident that there is no other gaiter anywhere as tough, durable, and easy to use.

If there is a company that specializes in gaiter design, it might be Outdoor Research. Some staff members here have owned Outdoor Research gaiters throughout their entire hiking life. So it makes sense when Outdoor Research creates specific gaiter designs for specific applications, like this Cascadia Gaiter. Weighing in at nearly half the weight of the award-winning Expedition Crocodile Gaiters, the Cascadia is a two-ply waterproof, breathable gaiter design intended for hiking, backpacking and cross-country skiing. Outdoor Research wrapped the GORE-TEX® PacLite® fabric around the leg area for comfort and then used rugged coated packcloth throughout the boot area where vapor transfer needs are not a factor. By placing the right textiles in the right spots, Outdoor Research significantly reduced the overall weight. A durable, nylon-supported rubber instep strap and hook-and-loop attachment keeps the Cascadia firmly attached to your hiking and backpacking boots. If you need a gaiter for mountaineering in subzero conditions, the Cascadia isn't your gaiter, but if you cover trail throughout the year, this is a gaiter in stride with your outdoor lifestyle.
