Sayulita Surfing In Sayulita Mexico

Following many delays we have made the trip to Sayulita, Mexico. Sayulita surfing is known everywhere. Now, the renown is not for grand crashing waves and extended rides, but rather the consistently satisfying waves that break left and right and can accommodate experts and novice surfers – like us – for a sweet day on the water.

Frankly, the grand crashing waves scare the heck out of me. I have surfed for twenty years but living in Montreal I do not get many chances without lots of travel, so my surfing talent is rather shallow. We’ve been to quite a few nice beaches in California and along the Baja, but a few Americans had enlightened us to surfing on the Riviera Nayarit north of Puerto Vallarta. Lately we had been noticing fellow Canadians and even some European acquaintances talk {particularly|expressly|specifically about the way the river transforms the surf in Sayulita.

The surf break is thoroughly exceptional. I mean, it is forceful enough to make the ride exhilarating, but not so formidable as to intimidate you – usually, that is. Sometimes the swells can get higher than eight feet and the action get a bit gnarly for my taste. The locals can absolutely get on their boards and shred when the swells are big and I learned there have been several surf champions who grew up in Sayulita.

A word about surfing here – it is inviting to beginning surfers, suggesting there are usually lots of, well, beginning surfers. Try to be tolerant as many visitors are just learning the sport and its intricacies. Luckily, the locals are amiable and offer cheap board rentals and rookie instruction. Surfing in Sayulita is best between December and April. However, the surf can get pretty crowded during those months since the chillier seasons are the chief Mexico vacation periods.

Since I got onto Mexico vacations – they are just another reason we love Sayulita. Following a few hours surfing there is so much to see and do close to the little town. Puerto Vallarta is only twenty miles away and that is where you want to go for a wild time. We wooped it up till way past midnight at Señor Frogs in PV. They have awesome golf courses and tours, too. Everywhere you look in the state of Nayarit there are numerous tour companies that will transport you into the jungles or onto a boat heading down the river or out in the bay. We liked to simply drive along the coast and see the Pacific views and mango groves.

Sayulita is an extremely fascinating place. Sayulita surfing is always awesome, and the food and hotels are so cheap we are thinking about moving further south to be closer to our new favorite place.
