Paradise found at Lo De Marcos Rentals

The western coastline of Mexico is often known as the Riviera Nayarit. Tourist towns like Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta have made the Riviera famous and villages like Lo de Marcos have been able to draw in visitors who are looking for a more authentic experience when vacationing in Mexico.
Until forty years ago, Lo de Marcos was just wetlands dotted with the occasional palm grove harvesting coconuts and processing the oils. The residents fished the fertile ocean and killed alligators in the swamps to feed themselves. The coastal areas of Nayarit were very sparsely populated with almost no amenities like electricity or adequate highways until, in the sixties, Hollywood arrived and virtually overnight Lo de Marcos and the Mexican Riviera became a popular hideaway for the rich and famous. Slowly, infrastructure was added and tourism displaced agriculture as the most lucrative enterprise of the area and for forty years now the locals have mastered the art of catering to tourist while maintaining their culture.
Lo de Marcos is a town of maybe 2,500 inhabitants, so it is not the flashy and refined scene found in say, Acapulco. You will find that it is an authentic taste of coastal Mexico – meaning a totally laid-back mood and authentic dining and customs that can be hard to find in the big tourist areas. It is rural Mexico with enough conveniences to make a visit very relaxing yet authentic enough to allow visitors to feel they are fairly detached from society.
Travelers who go on extended vacations flock to Lo de Marcos for its numerous recreational vehicle camps that are situated next to Lo de Marcos’ wide, unspoiled beaches. Vast numbers of visitors come back year after year and stay the whole winter.
Lo de Marcos is only about 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta with numerous transportation alternatives along Highway 200. Taxis out of Puerto Vallarta airport can be expensive, but just across the street there are cheap cabs and buses. The town is a little more than one square mile, so a light stroll is all it takes to get to almost any of the wonderful restaurants and bars offering fresh seafood and traditional Mexican fare. Its location on the Riviera Nayarit makes Lo de Marcos an ideal site from which to head out of on sightseeing outings of the many villages and jungles of the area.
