Entry from: Blue Lagoon Camp, Australia
Entry Title: "Hunting & Fishing in the wilds of the Cape"

Entry:

"Met up with Clint and Adell Roxburgh, (Clint was to be my hunting guide) and their son, Kieran in Coen where we fuelled up and had a quick lunch. Because of the late Wet season the main road to Blue Lagoon was still closed and we had to go via the track thru the national park almost to the Rokeby NP HQs before veering off towards ‘Old’ Merapah. You wont find this route on any map but anyway we got to Blue Lagoon – which was once an Aboriginal outstation and is very well set up.

Next day we checked out what is the southern most extension of Perets Swamp just on the north side of the track. A good size boar was feeding unconcerned about our steathly approach. He paid for it. Clint, who runs around bare-footed, waded in to get the pig and I dropped my boots and followed — it was up to my knees but luckily was soft and covered in grass of some sort. Still walking around in a swamp on Cape York you can’t help but think about crocs …. big crocs!

But apart from the hunting and the fishing it was the birdlife that was amazing. Some say that this area on Cape York is equal to or better than Kakadu. The best part though is the lack of people – you have it all to yourself!

We spent the next few days hunting and fishing this wild and remote section of Cape York with great success even with all the water that was still around. Being Aboriginal land for … well, forever … it has been hard to get into and experience but with Cape York Wild Adventures it is now open to those wanting to fish, hunt or four wheel drive in this incredible location. For more detail on what they have to offer see: www.capeyorkwildadventures.com.au.
